The Mobile Life iLab initiative: Royal exhibition experienced through Virtual Reality

Since the exhibition was on display for a limited period of time the virtual reality technology allows it to be available to a greater audience. Visitors get to experience the Palace exhibition in 3D and 360° and can learn more about specific dresses through audio guide and video. “We wanted to recreate the exhibition and allow it to be re-lived and accessible well into the future. With VR we can realise this idea. And furthermore, we can ensure that everyone gets to experience these fantastic creations, regardless of geographical location”, says Ebba Magnani, Country Manager Sweden, The Mobile Life.

The initiative is part of iLab; an initiative launched by tech company The Mobile Life to explore cutting edge technology solutions.

“It’s a challenge to capture an exhibition where the atmosphere and the aesthetic experience is so important, but we are very happy with the result and our learnings. The project was part of iLab which allows our developers to explore new projects and innovation and keep us up to date with the latest technology available,” continues Ebba.

The exclusive exhibition was a commemoration of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia’s 40th wedding anniversary. It showcases a total of five royal wedding dresses, including those of Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Madeleine, Princess Sofia and Princess Lilian. Designers include Pär Engsheden, Christian Dior, Ida Sjöstedt and Valentino.

The app is available in both English and Swedish.

The abbreviation VR stands for Virtual Reality. The VR headset allows the users to interact with simulated environments and experience a first-person view. The headset replace the user’s natural environment with a pre-recorded 360° VR environment which allows the user to turn and look around, just as in the physical world.

The Swedish Royal Court has produced the exhibition and holds all copyright to the exhibition and the images and footage thereof.
